Fund and Grant Development Intern

Internship

The Development Intern will maintain a pulse on the nonprofit sector by conducting funder research and writing internal concept ideas drawing on their knowledge and understanding of the field and internal TechSoup goals and projects.

All interns must be actively and presently enrolled an accredited college or university at an undergraduate or graduate level; have at least 1 year of experience in online research (nonprofit research, academic research, etc.); and have an interest in learning about the social sector, specifically an interest in learning about program development and grant writing for US and global programs.

Please note: this is a part-time (up to 25 hours per week), three-month internship located in the San Francisco office.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a pulse on current tech for good trends and provide insights and due diligence regarding relevant partnerships, funding opportunities, and CSR alignment.
  • Prospective funder research, including digesting and reporting on fundraising opportunities. Development of the ability to think strategically about internal programs and external opportunities.
  • Assist with drafting and editing of high-quality content, including funding proposals, concept papers, and reports that further TechSoup philanthropic goals.

Expected project outcomes:

  • Expand prospect list and identify funding opportunities.
  • Identification of alignment between TS fundable programs with Foundation and corporate CSR programs.
  • Increase institutional knowledge of the sector.

Goals for the intern:

  • Learn the development/fundraising process.
  • Improve research skills.
  • Improve writing and editing skills.
  • Develop strategic thinking and logic skills.
  • Improve use of business tools (MS suite, NetSuite CRM, SharePoint, OneNote, etc.).

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience in online research (nonprofit research, academic research, etc.).
  • Interest in learning about the social sector, specifically an interest in learning about program development and grant writing for US and global programs.
  • Research, writing, and editing skills with a desire to improve these skills throughout the internship period.
  • Basic online research skills, especially the ability to locate necessary data to strengthen project proposals and concept notes.
  • Proficient with Microsoft and Google Suite.
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems and processes.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Interact in a professional manner with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to graciously accept feedback and incorporate into work.
  • Social networking and non-profit knowledge preferred.
  • Experience with Foundation Center, GrantStation, or CRMs a plus.

Education

  • All interns must be actively and presently enrolled an accredited college or university at an undergraduate or graduate level.
