Digital Content Writer

Position

TechSoup’s marketing team is seeking a Web content writer to compose content specifically for online consumption. The ideal candidate will be a creative content development professional who understands and excels at creating copy that engages and delights users while also taking into account SEO best practices. The digital content writer helps our users solve a variety of tech-related, non-profit problems through the creation of content that is relevant, snackable, shareable, and answers tangible questions while moving them through the experience funnel.

The Digital Content Writer has a background writing for technology websites and has mastered the art of succinct story telling adopted for unique vertical audiences.  A key attribute includes the ability to weave diverse messaging into the copy with a keen eye towards the customer journey and experience.

Please note:  this is a 90-day, contract position located in the San Francisco office.

Duties and Responsibilities

The web content writer will create copy that is optimized for the Web and have the ability to provide the following:

  • Succinct, fact-filled content.
  • An engaging, active tone.
  • Writing categorized by subheadings.
  • Use of bulleted lists.
  • Embedded links throughout the text.
  • Provide basic design fundamentals and be familiar with digital content management systems.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, meet strict deadlines, and follow editorial guidelines. 

Qualifications

  • Experience with online marketing and lead generation.
  • Experience with user-experience design, content strategy and user persona design to drive content creation a plus.
  • Excellent overall writing skills in a number of different styles/tones including a deep knowledge of AP Style and Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Impeccable spelling and grammar and the ability to wordsmith on the fly.
  • A deep understanding of nonprofit consumers and what motivates them online and on mobile.
  • Great research, organizational, and learning skills.
  • High comprehension of software like Microsoft Word and Google Docs.
  • Familiarity with keyword placement and other SEO best practice.
  • An understanding of formatting content on the web and how best to write for web and mobile.
  • A passionate learner who is seeking the opportunity to write about a variety of topics and is able to take complex information and turn it into easy-to-consume copy.  
  • Produce a wide variety of content for the Web from listicles, long form content, human interest stories, and reviews to blogs, how to’s, and e-books.
